This week's Genesis Invitational required Charley Hoffman to earn a spot because Tiger Woods declined to grant him a sponsor exemption.

This week, Hoffman arrived to Riviera Country Club, and the Big Cat was the first to welcome him.

The first person I saw in the locker room was Tiger, and he goes, ‘Good job, old man.’ He’s older than me, but it’s nice to get that,” Hoffman said ahead of the tournament.

The performance was unexpected, considering how difficult it had been for him to start the 2024 season.

Hoffman's wife and children had to go without him, even though he was supposed to go skiing with them this week.

He has a furious start and has carried that enthusiasm into Tiger's event.

"When I saw Tiger in the locker room for the first time, he said, 'Good job, old man.'

Hoffman remarked before to the competition, "It's wonderful to have that, even though he's older than me.

Though there is still more golf to be played, this is a great start for the man who wasn't even in the field four days prior.
