The inaugural PGA TOUR pre-qualifier features Charlie Woods

Hobe Sound, Fla. Charlie Woods' first PGA TOUR pre-qualifier was Thursday at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.

It was the start of a lifetime in professional golf.

Tiger Woods' kid has competed in four PNC Championships with his father, but never in a TOUR-sanctioned event.

Although Woods did not advance from the pre-qualifier, his participation was remarkable.

Unusually huge audiences saw a laid-back Woods play the 18-hole qualifier at Lost Lake Golf Club.

Woods and his caddie, J.J. Kutner, a close buddy of Woods' age, and playing companion, Olin Browne Jr., a former mini-tour pro and son of three-time TOUR champion Olin Browne, laughed throughout the freezing morning.

“Great. It was fun playing with Charlie, recalled Browne Jr. “I've never seen so many people at a pre-qualifier.

Charlie plays great golf. At 15, playing a professional event is difficult.

His behavior was excellent. He hit some good shots today despite not being at his best.”

Woods seemed to enjoy his first TOUR pre-qualifier, supported by his family, Elin, and teammates
